Extra resources lift performance of impoverished schools

From the outside, Providence Cristo Rey High School looks like a school that’s struggling.

Located just south of Haughville, in one of Indianapolis’ poorest neighborhoods, the 107-year-old brick building wears its age, with the white trim flecked by paint chips. There is no grand sign announcing the presence of the school, only a jammed parking lot.

On Wednesday, July 29th, 2015, the 21st Century Charter School at Gary lost one of their brightest students, and a family in our community lost their beloved son. This letter is being sent to you to urge you to donate to the memorial of Ryan Brown, who was only 18-years-old when he passed.

Double-heart transplant patient Ryan Brown has donated his body to science. Friends and family members of Ryan Brown are holding a memorial service for him at 11 a.m. Saturday at the 21st Century Charter School, 724 Washington St. in Gary.

21st Century Charter School at Gary enjoys a special partnership with Ivy Tech Community College, in the form of a dual credit program. High school students at 21c have the opportunity to take college classes during traditional school day hours on-site at the nearby Ivy Tech campus. In order to graduate from high school at 21c, all students must earn at least 3 credit hours of college classes.
